Wish the rain, rain would go away?
Labels: bitesThe Bite
Too bad it doesn't work that way. Prep for April showers by stocking up on eco-raingear, since in our experience, the weather gods are pretty stingy with granting rain checks.
The Benefits
* Wetting yourself over the eco-friendliness. Manufacturers are coming up with more and more creative ways to repurpose materials (like plastic bottles) to useful effect, instead of making more PVC plastic.
* Getting home and dry. Green raingear defends you from the wet just as well as conventional options.
* Wet dream-worthy looks. Just 'cuz it's ugly outside doesn't mean your outfit has to be.

Unhappy Marriage Can Kill You?
We cannot deny the fact that being lonely pays more for your health than living in an unhappy marriage. For example, for your blood pressure, as shown in the recent study, "That second finding is a surprise because prior studies have shown that married people tend to be healthier than singles. It would take further study to sort out what the results mean for long-term health," researcher said. The investigation was made on 204 married people and 99 single adults.
The study is made with more white, and it's not clear whether the same results would apply to other ethnic groups.
The subjects wore blood pressure recording devices that measured the values of blood pressure at random times over 24 hours. Married subjects also completed questionnaires about their marriage. When data was processed, it appeared that increased marital satisfaction was connected to lower average blood pressure over the 24 hours and during the daytime compared to single people, while low marital satisfaction was connected to increased average blood pressure compared to the same category.
During the daytime, the average value of marriage-stressed spouses was about 5 points higher, achieving values considered not-healthy, the next stop towards hearth issues, forecasting heart attack and stroke. "Few studies of the risk for high blood pressure have looked at marital quality rather than just marital status," researcher said, that is involved in heart disease and high blood pressure investigations.
Partner's personality cannot be changed, but researches show a person's degree of satisfaction with their marriage is a key influence in their health.
7 Things About Lightning!
Labels: triviaFirst, let's see what you did know about lightning. You probably know that it's an atmospheric discharge of electricity, occurring during rain storms. You're right. Now let's see if you also knew this:
1 - Lightning can form without rain storms.
Yes, it's true. Lightning can also occur during volcanic eruptions or dust storms, and doesn't really require massive cloud formations. Lightning has been observed striking the Apollo 12 soon after takeoff, and was even recorded striking soon after thermonuclear explosions. Some of the largest volcanic eruptions can trigger lightning, due to the gases and solid material they eject high into the atmosphere.
2 - Lightning can form on other planets
While it's true that it cannot form in the vacuum of space, requiring the electrical breakdown of gas, lightning has been spotted in the atmospheres of planets like Venus and Jupiter. On the gas giant, it can be 100 times more powerful, though 15 times less frequent, than on Earth.
3 - Lightning can and does strike the same place twice
In fact, lightning favors certain
spots, particularly high locations, like trees and buildings. The Empire State Building is struck by lightning on average 23 times each year, and was once struck 8 times in 24 minutes. Actually, most lightning strikes are made up of multiple individual strokes, meaning that what we see as a pulsating lightning actually consists of three or four different strokes following the same pathway.
4 - Lightning can strike from ground to the clouds
Also true. Called positive lightning, this type makes up less than 5% of all lightning. It forms when cloud tops become positively charged and the ground is negatively charged. When the tension is high enough, electrons from the ground will "climb" to the top of the cloud, forming an inverted lightning. They usually carry about ten times as much current as a bolt of negative lightning, the "normal" one.
5 - Lightning can appear as a sphere
There are many historical accounts of spherical lightnings, or "ball lightnings". A ball lightning has the strange tendency to float (or hover) in the air and take on a ball-like appearance. Many witnesses reported them as being red to yellow in color, sometimes transparent, and some containing radial filaments or sparks. Other colors, such as blue or white occur as well. Recent laboratory experiments are just beginning to shed light on the nature of ball lightning, a phenomenon that has baffled scientists for centuries.
6 - What is the thunder?
The thunder is the noise heard after the lightning occurred. It's actually an explosion of the air molecules in the discharge channel, a rapid expansion caused by the electrical discharge. The rolling and gradually dissipating rumble of thunder is caused by the time delay of sound coming from different portions of a long stroke.
7 - Can a lightning strike out of the blue?
Yes, a lightning can really strike without a thunderstorm being present in the area. This is not the type of lightning previously mentioned, it's actually a weather phenomenon that scientists dubbed as ''bolt from the blue'' or ''dry lightning'' because it falls from clear, blue skies.

Does Physical Exercise Important for Our Health?
Labels: minutiaBasically, practicing sports periodically even if this is by means of going up the stairs instead of using the elevator or leaving the car for the bike, this means more than fighting diseases. Sports also improve memory and learning.
Base on the recent research, found more neurons in the hypothalamus nucleus (involved in memory) of the sports-practicing individuals than of the sedentary ones. Just walking 45 minutes daily thrice a week improves mental capacities, like planning and coordination. It is also known that active persons live more and have a healthier life than the sedentary ones do. But exercising is also a source of pleasure; it increases the level of certain hormones, like endorphins, which acts like natural analgesics. The practice of a sport also increases self-esteem, decreases anxiety and increases the capacity of facing stress.
In addition, researches also showed that sports prevent impotence in men, even when started after 50 years, as it improves circulation (erection is an issue of blood circulation) and makes the endocrine system release dopamine and serotonin. Moreover, men practicing sports overcome the average time of intercourse duration. This will also increase the release of testosterone, the male sexual hormone, from the testicles. This hormone boosts the number of immune white cells and red cells in the blood, preventing infections.
Bones also benefit from this; in childhood, their growth is boosted, and during adulthood, practicing sports impedes the loss of bony mass. It also keeps the structure and function of the articulations. They get more lubricated, flexible and less prone to degenerating arthropathies (rheumatism), even in old age. A sport also decreases by 20-40 % the risk of colon cancer. Tumors are favored by two hormones: insulin and estrogen. Exercising decreases the levels of these hormones. In the case of colon cancer, the positive effect is also due to the increase in intestinal mobility and these way toxins remain less in contact with the colon.
It's clear that sports improve heart's health. Sportsmen are less exposed to cardiovascular diseases. Sports increase the good cholesterol, decrease hypertension, control type II diabetes. The heart of a sport practicing person makes less effort in accomplishing the same amount of work. Not to mention the increased lung capacity of that individual. Still, the key is constant physical exercise. Even athletes interrupting training do not keep measurable health effects in the long run. After 12 weeks of break, elite athletes can lose 50 % of their aerobic training capacity.
Sports that can be practiced for the entire life are swimming, biking, tennis, gulf, race, march and mountaineering, while others, like football, soccer, rugby, karate, judo, or hockey just by some and at determined ages.
A Rainy Holly Week!
Labels: daily ramblingsIt’s been raining for 3days now sense Monday. I heard the news last night about the weather forecast; it has been told that this is due to the (ITCZ) Intertropical Convergence Zone. This is also known as the Intertropical Front, Monsoon trough, Doldrums or the Equatorial Convergence Zone, is a belt of low pressure girdling Earth at the equator. It is formed by the vertical ascent of warm, moist air from the latitudes above and below the equator. The air is drawn into the intertropical convergence zone by the action of the Hadley cell, a macroscale atmospheric feature which is part of the Earth's heat and moisture distribution system. It is transported aloft by the convective activity of thunderstorms; regions in the intertropical convergence zone receive precipitation more than 200 days in a year.
I check the weather forecast today and this will be the weather for Davao City:Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 86F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%.
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.
Tomorrow: Mixed clouds and sun with scattered thunderstorms. High 89F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
Tomorrow night: Scattered thunderstorms. Low 76F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 60%.
Saturday: Scattered thunderstorms possible. Highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 70s.
Sunday: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
Monday: A few thunderstorms possible. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
This is why our Holly Week has a rainy season, cool isn’t it? hehehe Well, I love also this weather. Especially it is not hot and you can sleep very will. I am also sleepy as I am writing this column now. But, for some reason having rainy days will be not that good especially when going to church. So, guys just take extra precaution when going to church. I just hope that your Holly Week will be Blissful.
The Bite in getting help with lime wedge out of your beer bottle!
Labels: bitesThe Bite
Don't bother - you can recycle it with the lime still inside. In fact, none of your recyclables need to be spotless, since most "contaminants" get cleaned out or burned away during remanufacturing. We'll drink to that.
The Benefits
*Recycling's even easier. What will the waste management people think up next?
*Cheers for less water waste. It takes about two glasses of water to clean out a glass jar; you'll save a lot of water by not rinsing your recyclables until they're spick-and-span.
~So, how's that guys? Isn't that cool enough! Well, just remember the golden rule in drinking or let me say government warning "DRINK MODERATELY" lolz well, guys enjoy the party!!!
World's Smallest Diamond Ring
Labels: minutiaMen around the world can now start celebrating the creation of the world's smallest diamond ring! Now everybody can afford a diamond ring. Too bad it is only 5 millionths of a meter in diameter and bears five-billionths of a carat of diamond, this meaning it can only be viewed through a microscope. The proud inventor of the diamond ring is the University of Melbourne. Previously, Japanese semiconductor manufacturer
Hitachi High-Technologies held the record for the smallest diamond ring by creating one, through a process routinely used to create semiconductor computer chips.
Back in 2004, employee Yasushi Kuroda of the company's subsidiary Hitachi Science Systems, manufactured a device in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the company's equipment to make micro-machines. With the help of a gallium ion beam which helped inspect semiconductor chips, Kuroda managed to create a ring of tungsten – widely used as wire filaments for classic light bulbs – and diamond only 0.02 millimeter in diameter. Allegedly, the diamond material was collected from diamond polishing powder, claimed the company's officials.
Although it might have not realized it at the moment, Kuroda may have provided through this invention a basis on which developers can build new quantum information processing technologies. Diamond rings can be used as components in single photon detectors. Single photon detectors are extremely important in quantum computing.
Similarly to electrons, the particles of light, or photons, can carry information. The technology behind digital computers manufactured today allows them to process information in binary code only, meaning that at the basic level a single bit of information can only have one of two possible states. Either '0' or '1', corresponding to the operation of a switch which can only be either turned 'on' or 'off' at one time. A collection of '1' and '0' represents a piece of information encoded in binary language.
Photons can also carry such bits of information – qubits – thus depending on the properties of a particle of light, one such qubit can be associated with one of the two values, '0' or '1', and used as an information storage device.
According to Hitachi, the microscope picture of the ring was awarded the gold medal at the Asia-Pacific Conference on Electron Microscopy in 2004. The new diamond ring was presented this month at the American Physical Society in New Orleans, by University of Melbourne researchers.
Shorter Men Are More Jealous!
Labels: minutiaDo really shorter men are easier to get jealous? Basically, when we talk about human emotion this is a much subjected part of the topic. We cannot sum up everybody for just a group of people. This is the mere essence of considering the human emotion. Base on what I have perceived, when you talk about emotion this is a conscious part of our body that is being use. This means that we are aware of what are the things happening in our emotions. We tend to act what we feel and perceive to do. Therefore, we always think first before doing anything.
Base on the recent facts that I gather, one of the team at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and University of Valencia in Spain put 549 Dutch and Spanish subjects, men and women, to assess their jealousy level and make a list of the qualities in a same sex rival that makes them feel they are outmatched.
Men appeared to be generally worried about attractive, rich and strong rivals. But the levels of jealousy were gradually decreasing connected to their height increase. The shortest men appeared to be the most likely to experience the most intense feeling of jealousy. Female jealousy was most likely triggered by the opponent's looks and charm, but the least exposed women to the 'green-eyed monster' were those of average height.
In the end, these results have quite logical explanations. Women are attracted by taller men, but the medium height women have the largest number of admirers, as they are regarded as right partners by both shorter and taller men. Still, some average-height women can experience jealousy when facing taller adversaries.
Naughty little devil... Napoleon may have been skilled in the battle field and able to accomplish many tasks at the same time, but scientists have found his weakness: jealousy. The new research published in the journal "Evolution and Human Behavior" explains why Prince persists with these high heels.
Are shorter men more aggressive, too?
Anyhow, there is a common belief that men of below average height display more aggressiveness than their taller peers, as they would try to convince the others that they are by no means less capable. The so-called "Napoleon complex" or "short man syndrome" makes 80% of the population regard the small men as violent. But a British study published in 2007 infirmed this.
Some really "evil" short men were Napoleon Bonaparte, whose name was given to the complex and whose height is disputed between 1.58m (5ft 2in) to 1.68m (5ft 6in); Josef Stalin, the Soviet despot was 1.63m (5ft 4in)(according to 1902 police records) and Josef Goebbels, Hitler's Minister of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment in Nazi Germany (dubbed "the malicious dwarf") was 1.65m (5ft 5in).
The reverse is represented by examples like Saddam Hussein, notorious for mass killings, inter-party "cleansings" and murderous whims, 1.88m (6ft 2in) tall; Idi Amin, 1.93 m (6ft4in) tall, former Ugandan dictator, responsible for genocides and many brutalities, or Osama Bin Laden, the al Qaeda leader who is 1.94m (6ft 4in) tall and thin, at just around 75kg (165lb) weight.
I think I’m Done with my new Template!
Labels: daily ramblingsWell, guys as you can see my template is new now - Woohooo!!! It took me 1day to finish this one, you know why? Blogger sometimes really sucks, every time I change my template it will always give an error message. I always revert my template back to its default settings. I think it's about 10times I do it until such time that blogger always gives an error message. I stop editing it last night because my head is spinning and I cannot absorb the things that I do. Just this morning when I finished all of this! It is very tiring though this paid with a good result. So, guys I'll be back later for some new post and updates. Thank you again and God Bless!!!

Wordless Wednesday!
Labels: wordlesswednesday~hello everyone! this is my first time to join this community. I find it exciting especially that I really love to take picture, that is why I join this group. Basically taking picture nowadays is not that hard, there are a lot of ways to take pictures especially we have cellphones that have camera, right? Well, we cannot deny this facts, but when we say quality pictures this must be the difference that we are trying to unfold. Anyway, here is my entry for this week. This was taken at the boat when I have my travel from Cagayan de Oro City to Cebu City.

Movie Time!
After long days of planning to watch for a movie, at last just yesterday evening my partner and I got to have a time to watch a movie in theater. I told her that I really like to watch that movie 10,000 BC. Well, I think it is very captivating though. So, we decided to watch that movie then. But before we enter at the theater we buy food, my partner asked me to buy that crazy jack. She wanted to try that because of the craziest name that it has hehehe lol.
Basically, the movie's title is "10,000 B.C.," but its characters and story line hark back to the first two decades of the last century, the era of D.W. Griffith. You have an outcast and an orphan, a boy who needs to become a man, a girl who needs rescuing, evil slave traders, noble savages and a revolt of the suffering masses.
The story begins among a remote mountain tribe, who are white, speak English and hunt mammoths. Except that those woolly beasts are descending into their snowy valley with greater infrequency because of, yes, climate change. A prophecy by its spiritual leader, Old Mother (Mona Hammond), lays out all three acts: Four-legged demons -- slave traders on horses -- will raid the village and capture many young people, including the beautiful orphan girl Evolet (Camilla Belle), who caught the eye of young hunter D'Leh (Steven Strait) when she was a child.
His pursuit of her and her captors along with his mentor Tic Tic (Cliff Curtis) and the very young Baku (Nathanael Baring) will turn him into a warrior and galvanize other tribes to join in the quest to overthrow an evil civilization and religion that has enslaved so many people. Getting to the riverside home of this Aztec-like civilization, intent on building pyramids through slavery and human sacrifice, is half the fun. En route, D'Leh -- pronounced Delay -- and his gang encounter fierce beasts such as a thing that looks like a giant turkey buzzard and another one that looks like a giant saber-toothed tiger.
Then the motley crew hits a primordial jungle, where they encounter a black tribe. Its leader, Nakudu (Joel Virgel), whose ability to speak English is reasonably explained, sees D'Ley as the answer to his tribe's own prophecy, so the invasion force gets that much bigger. Next comes a vast desert, where more tribes join the rebellion. Strait makes a convincing hero as his youth, athleticism and earnestness stand in him in good stead. Belle does manage to suggest a bit more depth to her character as she is anything but a poor girl quietly acquiescing to her captivity. Curtis and Virgel are solid as aging tribal leaders looking to pass on their dearly purchased wisdom.
~So, that's it guys! Overall rating? I think 8/10... So, guys take your time to watch the movie. Just relax and enjoy.
In Good Thai Hands!
Thai massage can either be viewed as relieving physical pain or as a healing process, its focus being to maintain the body’s balance. Yet, the origins of massage in the Kingdom are strictly derived from Buddhism. With the spread of the religion from India, monks also brought their health practice, one of which was massage. As temples were built, beginning in the third century BC, so too were medical facilities. One of these, what become known as Thai massage – was taught at the temples – a tradition that continues to this day at places like Bangkok’s Wat Pho. There are also elements of yoga, traditional Chinese medicine and Japanese shiatsu included in Thai massage, the sen energy lines being similar to meridian energy lines common in Chinese acupuncture. With all of this history in mind, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that aspiring students of Thai massage take up to 800 hours of training over four months, with blind masseurs enrolling in a specialized 1,200 hour program.
YEAR OF THE RAT
Labels: informationFor those who are not familiar with Chinese astrology, this is the "Year of the Rat", and it begins on February 7, 2008.
In western culture, (synonymous with the "rat race"), it's surprising indeed that the appearance of this redoubtable rodent is so unwelcome, except perhaps on Halloween.
This light-hearted lens is dedicated to all things "rat" -- be it "rat cheese", "ratafia", or "ratatouille"!
The "Rat" is the first sign of the Chinese zodiac.
Legend has it that the Jade Emperor invited the animals for a party. The first 12 to arrive was the Rat, followed by the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and lastly, the Pig. All the animals were named after the 12-year cycle that governs Chinese life thereafter.
Various versions of the Rat's story are particularly revealing about his character.
One version has it that, towards the end of the journey, the animals had to cross a celestial river, and the Rat asked the Ox to ferry him across. When they arrived on the other side, the Rat jumped down off the Ox's head and that's how gained first spot in the order of the Chinese zodiac.
Those born in the "Year of the Rat" are clever, ambitious, creative, hard-working, fastidious, charming and sociable, but can be a bit stingy when it comes to sharing their wealth or possessions.
Rats are compatible with Dragons, Monkeys and Oxen, but should avoid Horses at all costs.
In the "Year of the Rat", we can expect 12 months of plentiful opportunities and prospects not to mention being relatively free of turbulence, (which is great to know especially if you're planning on making some long-term investments, starting new projects, or keeping the home fires burning brightly).
It's also a rather fine time to socialise and grab a sumptuous meal or two with friends and family!
Photo Hunter: different!
Labels: photohunter~hello everyone, this is my first time to join with this group. I just find it very adventure and there are a lot of people who are joining. So, I'm here taking up some good adventure!
So this is my entry for this week theme: different! Well, this are some of the different water falls that I've been with. The fist picture is Sandawa falls in Marilog, Davao City and the 2nd picture is from TINUY-AN FALLS-Surigao, Bislig.

Beach-proofing your watch!
Labels: informationA beach vacation is good news for you, right? But it’s not always good news for your timepiece. Heat, dust, sand and water-all can be serious threats to your watch. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun in the sun: as always, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Here’s what you need to know about keeping your watch safe this season.
What Makes A Watch Water Resistant?
The most important feature in a water resistant watch is the gaskets or O-rings. Typically made of rubber, nylon, or Teflon, these form the watertight seals at the joints where the crystal, case back, and crown meet the watch cases are lined with sealant that help keeps the water out.
The thickness and material of the case are important factors in determining whether they can be safely worn underwater. The case must be sturdy enough to withstand underwater pressure without caving in. Usually, cases are made of titanium or gold-plated steel; solid gold cases can be water resistant if they are thick enough.
What Kind Of Special Care Does My Watch Need After Swimming?
After swimming or diving in saltwater, even if your watch is appropriately water resistant, you must immediately and thoroughly rinse the watch in fresh water. If your watch has a rotating bezel, turn the bezel several times while rinsing it. This will prevent salt buildup and corrosion of the bezel ring.
Surprisingly, swimming in a pool can be more harmful to your watch that swimming in the open water. Heavily chlorinated chemicals can corrode the gaskets even faster that saltwater, as can spray-on perfumes and hairsprays. Shampoos soap can also damage your watch and compromise water resistant, so take off your watch in the shower.
What Do I Do If Water Gets Into The Watch?
If, for example, water has gotten into your watch and the glass fogs up whatever you use it, the crown, crystal, and back gasket should be replace. You should also ask to have an overhaul prevent the moisture from damaging the watch.
Pulling Out Your Hair!
The Bite
Hmmm... Could be the huge hairball caught in your pipes. Rather than reach for the Drano, clear it out with a plumber's snake (aka drain auger) - they're more effective than liquid decloggers and free of hairy chems.
The Benefits
* Getting the hair out, even when you're superstressed and molting.
* Less bodily harm. Liquid drain decloggers use the active ingredient sodium hydroxide, which irritates your skin, nose, and throat.
* Longer-lasting pipes. Since Liquid-Plumr and the like are pretty caustic, they can degrade pipes if you use too much.
* Re-usability. You only need to buy a snake once; with liquid decloggers, you gotta buy new bottles practically every time your sink stops up.
