Does Physical Exercise Important for Our Health?

Basically, practicing sports periodically even if this is by means of going up the stairs instead of using the elevator or leaving the car for the bike, this means more than fighting diseases. Sports also improve memory and learning.

Base on the recent research, found more neurons in the hypothalamus nucleus (involved in memory) of the sports-practicing individuals than of the sedentary ones. Just walking 45 minutes daily thrice a week improves mental capacities, like planning and coordination. It is also known that active persons live more and have a healthier life than the sedentary ones do. But exercising is also a source of pleasure; it increases the level of certain hormones, like endorphins, which acts like natural analgesics. The practice of a sport also increases self-esteem, decreases anxiety and increases the capacity of facing stress.

In addition, researches also showed that sports prevent impotence in men, even when started after 50 years, as it improves circulation (erection is an issue of blood circulation) and makes the endocrine system release dopamine and serotonin. Moreover, men practicing sports overcome the average time of intercourse duration. This will also increase the release of testosterone, the male sexual hormone, from the testicles. This hormone boosts the number of immune white cells and red cells in the blood, preventing infections.

Bones also benefit from this; in childhood, their growth is boosted, and during adulthood, practicing sports impedes the loss of bony mass. It also keeps the structure and function of the articulations. They get more lubricated, flexible and less prone to degenerating arthropathies (rheumatism), even in old age. A sport also decreases by 20-40 % the risk of colon cancer. Tumors are favored by two hormones: insulin and estrogen. Exercising decreases the levels of these hormones. In the case of colon cancer, the positive effect is also due to the increase in intestinal mobility and these way toxins remain less in contact with the colon.

It's clear that sports improve heart's health. Sportsmen are less exposed to cardiovascular diseases. Sports increase the good cholesterol, decrease hypertension, control type II diabetes. The heart of a sport practicing person makes less effort in accomplishing the same amount of work. Not to mention the increased lung capacity of that individual. Still, the key is constant physical exercise. Even athletes interrupting training do not keep measurable health effects in the long run. After 12 weeks of break, elite athletes can lose 50 % of their aerobic training capacity.

Sports that can be practiced for the entire life are swimming, biking, tennis, gulf, race, march and mountaineering, while others, like football, soccer, rugby, karate, judo, or hockey just by some and at determined ages.

World's Smallest Diamond Ring

Men around the world can now start celebrating the creation of the world's smallest diamond ring! Now everybody can afford a diamond ring. Too bad it is only 5 millionths of a meter in diameter and bears five-billionths of a carat of diamond, this meaning it can only be viewed through a microscope. The proud inventor of the diamond ring is the University of Melbourne. Previously, Japanese semiconductor manufacturer
Hitachi High-Technologies held the record for the smallest diamond ring by creating one, through a process routinely used to create semiconductor computer chips.

Back in 2004, employee Yasushi Kuroda of the company's subsidiary Hitachi Science Systems, manufactured a device in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the company's equipment to make micro-machines. With the help of a gallium ion beam which helped inspect semiconductor chips, Kuroda managed to create a ring of tungsten – widely used as wire filaments for classic light bulbs – and diamond only 0.02 millimeter in diameter. Allegedly, the diamond material was collected from diamond polishing powder, claimed the company's officials.

Although it might have not realized it at the moment, Kuroda may have provided through this invention a basis on which developers can build new quantum information processing technologies. Diamond rings can be used as components in single photon detectors. Single photon detectors are extremely important in quantum computing.

Similarly to electrons, the particles of light, or photons, can carry information. The technology behind digital computers manufactured today allows them to process information in binary code only, meaning that at the basic level a single bit of information can only have one of two possible states. Either '0' or '1', corresponding to the operation of a switch which can only be either turned 'on' or 'off' at one time. A collection of '1' and '0' represents a piece of information encoded in binary language.

Photons can also carry such bits of information – qubits – thus depending on the properties of a particle of light, one such qubit can be associated with one of the two values, '0' or '1', and used as an information storage device.

According to Hitachi, the microscope picture of the ring was awarded the gold medal at the Asia-Pacific Conference on Electron Microscopy in 2004. The new diamond ring was presented this month at the American Physical Society in New Orleans, by University of Melbourne researchers.

Shorter Men Are More Jealous!

Do really shorter men are easier to get jealous? Basically, when we talk about human emotion this is a much subjected part of the topic. We cannot sum up everybody for just a group of people. This is the mere essence of considering the human emotion. Base on what I have perceived, when you talk about emotion this is a conscious part of our body that is being use. This means that we are aware of what are the things happening in our emotions. We tend to act what we feel and perceive to do. Therefore, we always think first before doing anything.

Base on the recent facts that I gather, one of the team at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and University of Valencia in Spain put 549 Dutch and Spanish subjects, men and women, to assess their jealousy level and make a list of the qualities in a same sex rival that makes them feel they are outmatched.

Men appeared to be generally worried about attractive, rich and strong rivals. But the levels of jealousy were gradually decreasing connected to their height increase. The shortest men appeared to be the most likely to experience the most intense feeling of jealousy. Female jealousy was most likely triggered by the opponent's looks and charm, but the least exposed women to the 'green-eyed monster' were those of average height.

In the end, these results have quite logical explanations. Women are attracted by taller men, but the medium height women have the largest number of admirers, as they are regarded as right partners by both shorter and taller men. Still, some average-height women can experience jealousy when facing taller adversaries.

Naughty little devil... Napoleon may have been skilled in the battle field and able to accomplish many tasks at the same time, but scientists have found his weakness: jealousy. The new research published in the journal "Evolution and Human Behavior" explains why Prince persists with these high heels.

Are shorter men more aggressive, too?

Anyhow, there is a common belief that men of below average height display more aggressiveness than their taller peers, as they would try to convince the others that they are by no means less capable. The so-called "Napoleon complex" or "short man syndrome" makes 80% of the population regard the small men as violent. But a British study published in 2007 infirmed this.

Some really "evil" short men were Napoleon Bonaparte, whose name was given to the complex and whose height is disputed between 1.58m (5ft 2in) to 1.68m (5ft 6in); Josef Stalin, the Soviet despot was 1.63m (5ft 4in)(according to 1902 police records) and Josef Goebbels, Hitler's Minister of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment in Nazi Germany (dubbed "the malicious dwarf") was 1.65m (5ft 5in).

The reverse is represented by examples like Saddam Hussein, notorious for mass killings, inter-party "cleansings" and murderous whims, 1.88m (6ft 2in) tall; Idi Amin, 1.93 m (6ft4in) tall, former Ugandan dictator, responsible for genocides and many brutalities, or Osama Bin Laden, the al Qaeda leader who is 1.94m (6ft 4in) tall and thin, at just around 75kg (165lb) weight.
